Heating FAQ’s
1. What is a heating changeover?
A heating changeover is the replacing of an old heating unit with a new one with similar physical properties.
2. Why change my model over instead of installing a new one?
Changing over a model is far less time consuming and thus significantly cheaper than installing a brand new model.
3. When is it time to get a new heater?
There are two common ways to know when the time has come to change your ducted gas heating. If you find that your utility bills are getting out of control, you may realise that your ducted gas heater is spending far more gas than it needs to – and a new, more efficient model is needed to cut your bills. The other reason is fairly simple – you’ve turned it on, and the air isn’t flowing!
4. My heater is malfunctioning but I’m worried about the coronavirus, is a changeover an “essential service” and how can I minimise contact with my installer?
Yes, as of April 1 2020, installing a heater appears to be considered an essential service in Victoria. This is of course open to change, and thus G-Store is unable to accept any responsibility or liability for this advice, but our installers are still working and available to give you a hand. Our expert team are still on the phones, and can help arrange a contactless changeover!
5. What’s new since last I installed a ducted gas heating system?
The big answer for that one is zoning*! You can now regulate where and when your heater sends the warm air, and where and when it doesn’t. For example, on cold nights, you can run the heater in your bedroom and keep it off in living areas. If you’re working from home, you can run it in your working space and keep it off in the bedroom until 5pm! *Available on select models.
6. How do heating capacity and airflow options work?
Kw/h relates to how much energy is produced per hour. Generally, 1 kW of heating is needed per square foot of space. As a rough guide we suggest:
Very cold zone: 1kW output per 8.5m²
Cold zone: 1kW output per 10m²
Cool Zone: 1kW output per 13 m²
Mild Zone: 1kW output per 16m²
Alternatively, you can try find the model number of an existing heater and try match it.
The airflow options are standard air or extra air. The extra air option enables for increased airflow.
