Victorian Solar Rebate Guide:
We know it’s a cliché, but there’s never been a better time to live in Victoria. The Victorian government has instituted a raft of rebates and refunds for households looking to green up their act and generate their own energy with solar power. Getting off the grid is easier than it’s ever been in Victoria, but it can be difficult to know where to start and how to get things off the ground.
Check out our Solar Rebate Guide below to learn what’s on offer, whether you’re eligible, and how to get the process started.
The Solar Panel Rebate:
The Victorian Solar Panel Rebate is valid through to the end of the current financial year, June 30 th, 2019, and offers a 50% discount on your household’s first solar power system. The rebate is capped at $2,225 – meaning any system worth over $4,500 will receive a rebate of $2,225 and any system worth under $4,500 will receive a 50% rebate. The rebate is capped at 24,000 homes.
Why Solar?
A solar PV system is the perfect way to enter the exciting world of household renewable energy. Installing a solar system is a great way to get your home off the grid and slash your utility bills. Producing your own energy is a rewarding experience, and no, your system won’t stop working when the clouds roll in. Solar powering your home is a great way to personally contribute to Australia’s efforts to divest from harmful fossil fuels, and your investment in our country’s future is paid back to you by seeing that figure in the corner of your electricity bill shrink smaller and smaller.
The Solar Hot Water Rebate:
The Victorian Solar Hot Water Rebate is worth $1,000 and is available to the first 6,000 homes to install a solar hot water system. A solar hot water system is a great option for homes that already have a solar PV system and are looking to become more energy independent, or for homes where installing a solar system isn’t possible. Even better – if you installed a solar hot water system after August 19, 2018 and weren’t aware of the rebate; you’re still eligible to claim!
Households will only be eligible for one rebate under the Solar Homes package (i.e. a household that accesses a Solar Hot Water rebate cannot claim a Solar PV rebate).
To be eligible for a rebate, you must be able to answer ‘Yes’ to the following:
- Do you have a combined household taxable income of less than $180,000 per annum? (based on the 2016/17 or 2017/18 tax assessment notices for the home owners or alternative proof of income for the 2016-17 or 2017-18 financial year. For example, proof of pension received)
- Are you the owner-occupier of the home?
- Is the home valued at under $3 million?
- Are you replacing an existing hot water system, including an existing solar hot water system?
- Was your solar hot water system installed on or after the 19th of August?
